Basic Kneads was launched in March 2021 as a collaborative effort between teens and adults during the COVID pandemic. It began as a pilot program under Operation Support Our Schools for Texas City ISD students and later expanded to include the Deer Park and La Porte school districts.
In August 2023, the Bay Area Service League adopted the Snack Attack Packs initiative as a standalone philanthropic program. By June 2024, teens fully embraced the Basic Kneads philanthropic program, including assembling Snack Attack Packs, volunteering, and donating food to the Clear Lake Food Pantry, along with support for Interfaith Caring Ministries.
What started as 250 supplemental meals in one district has blossomed into a program supplying 1,050 meals across three districts. Each meal package consists of a microwaveable entree, a sweet-and-salty snack, and a drink. Volunteers are responsible for assembling the packages and delivering them to key personnel within the school districts. Teens play a crucial role, supplying materials and being essential during assembly days.
Typically, volunteering at food shelters occurs during the summer when participants have more flexibility. Donations are welcome throughout the year. The rising concerns about food insecurity and scarcity in the community have been powerful motivators for this philanthropic effort.
Bay Area Service Teens are dedicated to making life a little easier for those struggling to access proper nutrition.
