Bay Area Service League Supports Young Readers During National Literacy Month

September marks National Literacy Month, and Bay Area Service League commemorated this important occasion by distributing brand-new books directly to students in La Porte ISD through the Literacy for Life philanthropic program.

Thanks to a $4,000 book donation from Barnes & Noble Baybrook, the league participated in a special book distribution event, the Back-to-School Bash.

With guidance from Nichole Zucha, Director of Library Services for La Porte, Bay Area Service League joined the event for elementary students.

This matters because La Porte ISD offers librarian services only at the high school level, while younger students receive support through other means. The children’s enthusiasm, curiosity, and pride in receiving their own books were remarkable.
Ms. Zucha was deeply moved by the event’s lasting impact, recognizing that these books would continue to support and inspire students beyond National Literacy Month.
