Bay Area Service Teens Open Membership to Males Shortly After Charter Established in 1996

Before today’s Bay Area Service Teens made their mark, an earlier generation of young volunteers was already shaping the future of service. In the mid-20th century, one of the most well-known groups was the Beverly Thrifites, an all-female youth organization that reflected the values of its time. Within this group, young women learned important skills such as leadership, teamwork, and community responsibility.

Today, youth service has evolved significantly. Bay Area Service Teens took a major step forward by opening membership to males shortly after receiving its charter in 1996. This change not only welcomed new members but also paved the way for a new generation of male leaders to emerge and serve.

Among these leaders are Robert Raiford (1998–1999), Andrew Lewis (2014–2015), Daniel Monks (2016–2017), Patrick Dooley (2017–2018), Noah Laufer (2020–2021), Thomas Jennische (2022–2023), and Chris Comin (2023–2024).

Carrying forward the spirit of those who came before them, each of these young men demonstrated that leadership flourishes when everyone has the opportunity to participate.

Bay Area Service Teens continue to lead with heart, vision, and a commitment to support every young person eager to make a difference.
